The Tonbo Swimmers Clan

My approach to swimming is to be a true practitioner of what I teach, like teaching wushu.  To be a good kungfu master, one must be true to his form, for water cannot be cheated.

How your student feels and how the water reacts, exposes the true teachings of your technique.  Is the swimmer smooth and slippery in the water, or is he/she splashing frantically to move ahead?  The reason why Wing Chun, Tai chi, Aikido, Judo is so impressive in the martial arts world is not the skill, but the calmness of expression and the straight body core exhibited in execution.  This is the only way to harness minimal effort for maximum impact in their punches / throw / blocks. So is it any wonder than that swimming can also harness the same body core muscles to move through water effortlessly, without a hint of struggle in the water.  Study the long distance swimmers, English channels swimmers, that's how they do it actually.
